Dear Families:
Welcome to 3rd grade at Brassfield Road
Elementary School! My name is Mrs. Simmons
and I am very excited to have your child in my class next year.
This is my third year at Brassfield as a 3rd
grade teacher. I am originally from Illinois where I attended Eastern Illinois University and received a Bachelors of Arts
in Speech Communications Education. I
began my teaching career in Illinois where I taught middle school for 6
years. After moving to North Carolina I
started a family and stayed home for a few years. Transitioning back into teaching, I worked as
a lead teacher at 2 preschools and then worked as a teacher’s assistant at
Brassfield Elementary and Baileywick Elementary for 10 years. During that time I went back to school and
attained my elementary teaching license.
Our classroom will be participating in the BYOD (Bring Your
Own Device) program this year. From
experience this past year I have found that iPhones and similar devices are not
effective tools for what we need in the classroom. Should you want to send your child with a
device I strongly encourage that they be tablets or small laptops such as
Chromebooks.
I’ve included a supply list below. Please do your best to
have students ready with supplies by
July 12th.
As a reminder, the school day starts promptly at 9:15 and we dismiss at 3:45. Parents may drop students off as
early as 8:45 and may pick up until 4:10. If your child will be riding the bus,
you can visit http://www.wcpss.net/transportation
for more information.
I look forward to meeting you at our open house on Tuesday, July 18th ! In order to ease traffic, we are asking that
parents attend one of two sessions, either at 5:30 or 6:15. Each session will
consist of a short presentation about our class
structure/expectations/curriculum, as well as time for questions and
conversation. If you have children in multiple classrooms, you are more than
welcome to attend one class at 5:30 and the next at 6:15, or split the time as
works best to visit each child’s classroom.
Enjoy your time off, and we’ll see you on July 10th!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Simmons
